Baajah Mohammed is an Atlanta based performer with a passion for entertaining. She recently graduated from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University with a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. There, she studied under the tutelage of Margaret Baroody and Metropolitan Opera Mezzo Denyce Graves.

Prior to her time at Peabody, Baajah was a member and soloist of the Grammy Nominated East Carolina University Chamber Singers. Baajah has been seen on stage as Lydia Bennett in the Staged Premiere of Kirk Mechem’s Pride and Prejudice, Barbarina (The Marriage of Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Sister Constance (Dialogues of the Carmelites), and Celia (Iolanthe), along with many other credited performances.

While pursuing vocal studies, Baajah studied multiple styles of dance with Dance South Performing Arts for nearly 12 years. There she performed as a soloist, a principle dancer in ensembles and competitions, as well as a slew of NCAA half-time performances. Baajah continued her dance experience as a Movement Instructor for Maryland Opera’s summer program in 2019 and 2020. She was also Dance Caption for Peabody Opera Theater’s production of Pride and Prejudice. The following year, she choreographed and performed the role of C3 in Daniel Despins’ premiere opera The Chains We Bear.

In addition to her years of classical training, Baajah has become proficient in several other musical styles including, but not limited to: Pop, R&B, Rock, and Musical Theatre. Being a proponent of new music, Baajah was an active member of the North Carolina NewMusic Initiative from 2014-2018. With them, she performed as a soloist and with small and large ensembles presenting newly composed works. During her time at Peabody, Baajah was a member of the premiere vocal chamber group, The Hour Prior. She debuted the role of Beauty/Desire in the virtual premiere of The Choice is Yours by Benjamin Stevenson in 2021.

As a teacher, Baajah is innovative, caring, and fun to work with. She curates her approach based on the individual needs and goals of her students. Her main goal is fostering healthy and expressive technique while maintaining a comfortable learning environment.
